Set-Up Overview
The below set-up guide will show you how to assemble the Sleep Number smart mattress.
Smart bed assembly can take between 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete. The set-up guide will walk you through three phases of setup:
- Assemble your smart bed.
- Get your smart bed online with the Sleep Number app.
- Start sleeping better tonight.
Set up your mattress
- Remove the mattress from the outer bag and locate its product label.
- With two people carrying the mattress, place it sleep surface-side down with the head of the mattress at the foot of your bed frame/base, and remove mattress bag.
- Find the zipper along the edge of the mattress cover and unzip it completely to open up the top layer.
- Once it’s unzipped, fold the cover in thirds down toward the foot of the bed to reveal the mattress foam.

- At the end of the bed, you’ll find a horizontal slit in the mattress cover. This opening is made for the air hoses and lets you route them inside the cover to each side of the bed.
- Insert the Hoses: Push in air hoses, one at a time —blue for the right sleeper (bed label side) and white for the left sleeper—through the slit.
- Feed enough of each hose through so they can comfortably reach their side of the bed without stretching or bending too much.
- Blue hose (Right): Guide it toward the right side of the bed. Lay it flat and make sure it’s not twisted.
- White hose (Left): Do the same on the left side.
- Feed enough of each hose through so they can comfortably reach their side of the bed without stretching or bending too much.
- Begin connecting the hoses by removing the plastic white air chamber cap
- Repeat on other side of bed.
- Zip the mattress cover close.
- WARNING: To ensure compliance with federal and state flammability requirements, the border wrap must be positioned correctly with the mattress as shown. The border wrap must be positioned over the foam/air chamber and remain flat during zipping.

- With two people on both sides of the mattress, carefully flip the mattress right side up. Have one person hold the hose bunch while flipping.
- If you do not have a base: Place your Smart Control System in its desired location.
- Connect all hoses and wires and plug into the nearest electrical outlet.
- Sleeper Right Hose (Blue)
- Sleeper Left Hose (White)
- Power cord into Smart Control System (with small green wire)
- Once all lights on the Smart Control System have turned on, proceed to getting your bed online with the Sleep Number app.
2. Get Your Bed Online with the Sleep Number app
If you already have a Sleep Number smart bed and you are not getting online for the first time, skip this process.
Finish Bed Setup:
Get your bed online for the first time
- Make sure your bed is set up and no one is in it when you get started.
- Open the Sleep Number® app and tap "Smart Bed."
- Tap "Finish Setup" and follow the steps. This may take 5 to 10 minutes.
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter your password. Make sure your router is within 40 feet of your smart bed and your internet service is connected.
- Stay next to your bed until the process is complete.
Get another bed online
- Open the Sleep Number® app and tap "Profile."
- Tap the account settings icon in the top right corner.
- Under My Orders, find the bed you want to set up and tap Complete Registration. Add sleeper profiles if you haven't yet. If you have already set up sleeper profiles, select the bed you want to get online from the Smart tab.
- Tap "Finish Setup" and follow the steps. This may take up to 5 to 10 minutes.
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter your password. Make sure your router is within 40 feet of your bed and your internet service is connected.
- Stay next to your bed until the process is complete.
Set up your remote
Skip this process if you did not purchase a remote.
- Insert two AA batteries into the back of your remote.
- Press and hold the pairing button on your pump for five seconds.
- When the light starts blinking, release.
3. Start Sleeping Better Tonight
Use your Sleep Number® app or remote to find your Sleep Number setting. Visit our support site if you need help finding your Sleep Number setting. It's normal for your Sleep Number setting to be different than the one you found in the store.
