Sleep Number 360® Air Systems Installation Guide

Prepare for Installation

Applies to: All Sleep Number 360 smart bed models and the Sleep Number c1 smart bed. Does not include Sleep Number smart bed models.

Air chamber install for beds with a non-adjustable base

Applies to: All Sleep Number 360® smart beds with Integrated Base/Mattress only.

What you will need

  • White air chamber caps (typically stored in your smart mattress, base, or provided during delivery). If you do not have white air chamber caps, you can order them online or visit a Sleep Number store near you.
  • Replacement air chamber(s)
  • Sleep Number® app or remote
  • Four towels to place over the MicroHook™ strips.
  • Two people are required to complete installation.

How to install your air chamber(s)

  1. Inflate your smart bed to 100 on both sides using the Sleep Number app or remote.
  2. Remove all bedding and unplug your bed from the wall outlet or power strip.
  3. At the hip of your bed, near the center, disconnect the hose(s) from the air chamber(s) in your bed by pressing down on the tab while pulling the connector. You may hear air releasing from the air chamber(s). Cap the air chamber(s) using the white air chamber(s) caps. Single chamber beds only have one hose connection.
    • Dual chamber bed sizes: Double, Queen (dual chamber), King, California King, Split King, Split California King, FlexTop® King, FlexTop California King
    • Single chamber bed sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen (single chamber)
  4. If you have an integrated base: Lift and move your smart mattress off your base. Place towels over the white MircoHook strips near the head and center of your base.
    • This will prevent damaging your smart bed on the MicroHook strips when flipping upside down.
  5. Flip the smart mattress upside down so the bottom of your smart mattress is facing up.
  6. Unzip the cover. Fold back the unzipped portion of the cover.
  7. Remove base pad (for certain models) and remove the air chamber(s).
  8. Plug your bed back into the wall outlet or power strip.
  9. Prepare your new air chamber(s) for installation by attaching hoses to the chamber(s) while outside of your bed. Use only the slack of the hose that is provided. Do not pull on the hose.
    • If your air chambers have two zippers, unzip either side of the chambers when inflating to 100. After inflating and capping, re-zip.
    • Inflate your chamber to 100. You will hear and see air entering the chamber(s). It may take a little while to inflate when the chamber(s) are completely flat, and your Sleep Number® setting may not change right away.
    • Once inflated, disconnect hoses and cap off air chamber(s) with white air chambers caps.
  10. Place new chamber(s) into your smart mattress. Make sure the chamber nozzle is facing up.
  11. Make sure the white fabric material is fully covering the foam side walls.
  12. Insert base pad (if applicable).
  13. Gently zip the cover closed. Pull the cover tight while zipping to straighten the cover out.
  14. Flip the mattress right side up.
  15. Remove towels from the base (if applicable).
  16. Locate hoses at base opening at hip. Remove white air chamber cap(s) and connect hoses to chamber(s). Push until you hear or feel them click into place.
  17. Adjust your Sleep Number setting on both sides of your bed.

Pump Install for beds with a non-adjustable base

What you will need

  • Replacement Firmness Control System
  • Sleep Number® app or remote

How to install your Firmness Control System

  1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
  2. Locate your Firmness Control System.
    • If you have an integrated base: While at the foot of your bed, move your smart mattress to the left so it slightly hangs off the edge of your base. Lift the compartment lid to access the Firmness Control System.
    • If you do not have a base: The Firmness Control System is typically placed at the head of your bed on the floor.
  3. Disconnect the Firmness Control System.
    • Sleeper Right Hose (Blue Connector) – Press down on tab while gently pulling the connector. You may hear air releasing from the hose.
    • Sleeper Left Hose (White Connector) – Press down on tab while gently pulling the connector. You may hear air releasing from the hose.
    • Power Cord – Pull at head of connector and pull out.
  4. Remove your Firmness Control System.
  5. Write down the MAC address of your replacement Firmness Control System. This can be found on the bottom of the Firmness Control System. You will need the MAC address to finish the installation process within the Sleep Number app.
  6. Reconnect Firmness Control System.
    • Sleep Right Hose (Blue Connector) – Gently push until you hear or feel connector click into place.
    • Sleeper Left Hose (White Connector) – Gently push until you hear or feel connector click into place.
    • Power Cord – Plug cord into system.
  7. Put your new Firmness Control System where the original Firmness Control System was placed and return compartment lid.
  8. Move and center your smart mattress on the base.
  9. Plug your bed back into its wall outlet or power strip.
  10. Login and complete the following steps in Sleep Number® app. (If you do not have the Sleep Number app, follow these instructions for downloading the app to your device.)
    • Note: If you are using a remote, skip the below steps.
    • Tap “Smart Bed.”
    • Tap the “Bed Settings” icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
    • Tap “Install Replacement Electronics” and follow the steps on your screen.
  11. If you have a remote, complete a factory reset to reconnect your remote to your bed.
  12. Once your remote or app is paired, reinflate your bed by setting it to a Sleep Number setting of 100. Once at 100, lie down on your side and reset your Sleep Number setting.

Air chamber install for a 360 FlexFit™ smart adjustable base

Applies to: All Sleep Number 360 smart beds with FlexFit smart adjustable base.

Safety Warning

A mattress with a 360 FlexFit smart adjustable base has magnets that emit a strong magnetic field when the mattress or magnets are detached from the base. When the mattress is attached to its base, the magnetic field is less than 5 Gauss at any distance and is considered safe for all persons.

  • To minimize the risk of a pinch injury, keep magnets away from each other and away from other metal objects. 
  • When a mattress is not attached to a base, such as when transported or serviced, persons with medical implants should stay a minimum of 3 feet away from the magnets. 
  • Strong magnetic fields can damage electronics, electronic/magnetic storage devices, AV equipment, bank/credit/debit cards, etc.
  • We recommend having two people when detaching the mattress from the base.

What you will need

  • Four to eight towels to place between magnets.
  • Two people are required to complete installation.

How to install your air chamber(s)

  1. Start with your bed in a flat position and inflate your smart bed to 100 on both sides using your Sleep Number app or remote.
  2. Remove all bedding and unplug your bed from the wall outlet or power strip.
  3. Disconnect smart mattress from base.
    • Use your thumbs to push up on the edge of the magnets connecting the smart mattress and the base to disconnect. Fold towels into thirds and place between the smart mattress and base magnets to prevent re-attachment.
      • win XL, Full, Double, Queen, King, California King, FlexTop® King, and FlexTop California King: 4 total - one at each corner of the foot (2), one at each side near the hip (2).
      • Split King, Split California King: 8 total - one at each corner of the foot (4), one at each side near the outside hip (2), one at each side at the hip, near the center (2).
    • At the hip of your bed, near the center, disconnect the hose(s) from the air chamber(s) in your bed by pressing down on the tab while pulling the connector. You may hear air releasing from the air chamber(s). Cap the air chamber(s) using the white air chamber caps. Single chamber beds only have one hose connection.
      • Dual chamber bed sizes: Double, Queen (dual chamber), King, California King, Split King, Split California King, FlexTop California King
      • Single chamber bed sizes: Twin XL, Full, Queen (single chamber)
    • If you have a FlexFit™ 3 smart base with foot warming: Disconnect foot warming connections at the hip of the bed by pressing down on the latch at the head of the connector and gently pull.
  4. Flip the smart mattress upside down so the bottom of your smart mattress is facing up.
  5. Remove the magnets by gently twisting to the left and lifting off the cover. The number of magnets will vary depending on the size of bed. IMPORTANT: Keep the magnets separated so you do not pinch your fingers.
    •  Twin XL, Full, Double, Queen, King, California King, FlexTop King, FlexTop California King: 4 total - one at each corner of the foot (2), one on each side near the hip (2).
    • Split King, Split California King: 8 total - one at each corner of the foot (4), one at each side near the outside hip (2), one at each side at the hip, near the center (2)
  6. Unzip the cover and fold back the unzipped portion of the cover.
    • Tuck foot warming wires into the side of cover wall (if applicable).
  7. Remove the base pad (for certain models) and remove the air chamber(s).
  8. Plug your bed back into its wall outlet or power strip.
  9. Prepare your new air chamber(s) for installation by attaching hoses to the chamber(s) while outside of your bed. Use only the slack of the hose that is provided. Do not pull on the hose.
    • If your air chambers have two zippers, unzip either side of the chambers when inflating to 100. After inflating and capping, re-zip.
    • Inflate your chamber to 100. You will hear and see air entering the chamber(s). It may take a little while to inflate when the chamber(s) are completely flat, and your Sleep Number® setting may not change right away. 
    • Once inflated, disconnect hoses and cap off air chamber(s) with white air chamber caps.
  10. If you have a FlexTop or Split King, unzip your air chambers.
    • If you have a FlexTop: Unzip the air chambers halfway.
    • If you have a Split King: Completely unzip the air chambers.
  11. Place new chamber(s) into your smart mattress. Make sure the chamber(s) nozzle is facing up.
  12. Insert base pad (if applicable).
  13. Straighten cover bottom out and route wires through openings in the cover at the hip.
  14. Make sure the white fabric material is fully covering the foam side wall.
  15. Gently zip the cover closed. Pull the cover tight while zipping to straighten the cover out.
  16. Add magnets back to the mattress cover. Magnets are color coordinated. (Gray goes with Gray and black goes with black). IMPORTANT: Keep the magnets separated so you do not pinch your fingers.
  17. Flip the smart mattress right side up.
  18. Reconnect smart mattress to base.
    • Feed hose and foot warming wires (if applicable) through base opening at hip. 
    • Remove white air chamber cap(s) and connect hoses to chamber(s). Push until you hear or feel them click into place. 
    • If you have foot warming connections: Unplug your bed, then reconnect foot warming connections. Plug your bed back into its wall outlet or power strip. 
    • Center your smart mattress on the base and remove towels to reconnect the smart mattress to each magnet one at a time.
  19. Adjust to your Sleep Number setting on each side of the bed.

Pump install for a 360 FlexFit™ smart adjustable base

  2. Locate the Firmness Control System found on the sleeper left side at the foot of the bed underneath the base.
  3. Detach the magnets. Lift the mattress at the foot of the bed to detach the mattress from the base.
  4. From the sides of your base near the foot, grab, lift, and pull the corner of the base panel toward the head of the base.
  5. Disconnect Firmness Control System.
    • Sleep Right Hose (Blue Connector) – Press down on tab while gently pulling the connector. You may hear air releasing from the hose.
    • Sleeper Left Hose (White Connector) – Press down on tab while gently pulling the connector. You may hear air releasing from the hose.
    • FlexFit Base Cord (Black Wire) – Pull at head of connector and pull out.
    • Power Cord – Pull at head of connector and pull out.
  6. Remove your Firmness Control System from the shelf.
  7. Write down the MAC address of your replacement Firmness Control System. This can be found on the bottom of the Firmness Control System. You will need the MAC address to finish the installation process within the Sleep Number app.
  8. Put your new Firmness Control System where the original Firmness Control System was placed.
  9. Reconnect Firmness Control System.
    • Sleep Right Hose (Blue Connector) – Gently push until you hear or feel connector click into place.
    • Sleeper Left Hose (White Connector) – Gently push until you hear or feel connector click into place.
    • FlexFit Base Cord (Black Wire) Gently push connect into place.
    • Power Cord – Plug cord into system.
  10. Return base panel to flat position. Center your smart mattress on the base and reconnect the smart mattress to each magnet one at a time.
  11. Plug your bed back into its wall outlet or power strip.
  12. Login and complete the following steps in Sleep Number app. (If you do not have the Sleep Number app, follow these instructions for downloading the app to your device.)
    • Note: If you are using a remote, skip the below steps.
    • Tap “Smart Bed.”
    • Tap the “Bed Settings” icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
    • Tap “Install Replacement Electronics” and follow the steps on your screen.
