Quick Answer
To disconnect a Sleep Number® air hose, locate the hose connection, press the release tab, and gently pull the hose away from the air chamber.
To reconnect the hose, push it firmly into the connector until it locks into place. Gently tug on the hose to verify the connection is secure.
Before You Start
You may need to disconnect an air hose when:
- Moving your bed
- Troubleshooting air loss
- Replacing an air chamber
- Replacing a pump
- Performing maintenance
Important - Air begins escaping from the air chamber immediately after a hose is disconnected.
If you want to maintain your current firmness setting, have air chamber caps ready before disconnecting the hose.
Air chamber caps are typically stored:
- Inside the mattress
- Inside the base near the pump
If you cannot locate your caps, you can order them online or visit a Sleep Number store near you.
Hose Color Reference
When reconnecting hoses:
- White hose = Left side of the bed
- Blue hose = Right side of the bed
Left and right are determined while lying on your back in bed facing upward.

Is There White or Powdery Material Inside My Hose?
Some customers notice a light-colored or powdery material inside their mattress hose.
In most cases, this material is manufacturing residue such as:
- Plasticizer
- Resin
- Talc
Returned products containing this material have been tested and were not identified as mold.
Sleep Number® mattresses are manufactured with materials designed to resist mold and microbial growth and meet ASTM G21 standards.
