Your Sleep Number® setting controls how firm or soft your mattress feels. You can find a new setting anytime using the Sleep Number app or your remote. The guided process moves your bed from the firmest setting, 100, to softer settings so you can choose the level of support that feels best.
The right Sleep Number® setting should help you feel aligned, supported and comfortable. Your setting may change over time as your body, comfort preferences or support needs change. Follow these steps whether it is your first night in your bed or you want to adjust your setting later. If you sleep with a partner, each person should find and save their own Sleep Number® setting.
Before you start
Lie in bed in your normal sleeping position with your remote or the Sleep Number app in hand. Your weight and position affect the air pressure and feel of your bed, so it is important to be in the position you usually sleep in.
If you have more than one sleeping position, try the one you usually wake up in, because this is the position you usually spend the most time in at night.
Make sure your pillow is fully supporting the curve of your neck. The bottom of the pillow should reach your shoulders. If you're a back sleeper, you can even place the pillow slightly under your shoulders.
Then use the steps below for the Sleep Number app or your remote.

- Tap Smart Bed.
- Tap Sleep Number® setting.
- Tap Find New Sleep Number® setting.
- The app will guide you through finding your Sleep Number® setting.
How to find your Sleep Number® setting with your remote
ComfortMode™ Collection with black core remote
- Use the L/R button to select the side of the bed you want to control.
- Confirm that Left or Right appears on the display.
- Use the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the firmness of your mattress.
ComfortNext™ Collection, smart beds and traditional beds
- Press the Home button.
- Select Sleep Number.
- Press the Favorite button.
- Select Find Your Sleep Number.
- Select Continue.
- The remote will guide you through finding your Sleep Number setting.
How to know when you found the right Sleep Number® setting
Your bed will first get firmer and increase to 100, the firmest Sleep Number® setting. As the bed gets firmer, relax and notice how your body feels.
After reaching the firmest setting, your bed will get softer. Again, pay attention to how your body feels as the bed gets softer.
When your body feels supported and you do not feel discomfort at your pressure points, press Stop at Current Setting in the app or select Enter on the remote. You found your Sleep Number® setting. Use the app or your remote to save it.
Try your new Sleep Number® setting for a few nights
Sleep at your new Sleep Number® setting for 3 to 5 nights. If you are not comfortable after that, adjust your setting by 5 or 10.
- Increasing your setting—for example, from 35 to 40—will provide a firmer mattress.
- Decreasing your setting—for example, from 35 to 30—will provide a softer mattress.
How you feel in the morning can help you decide whether your setting is right for you. If you have the Sleep Number app, review your Sleep Score and sleep data for a more detailed look at how you are sleeping. How to save a favorite Sleep Number® setting

- Log in to the Sleep Number app.
- Tap Smart Bed.
- Tap Sleep Number setting.
- Adjust the bed to your Sleep Number® setting.
- Choose Favorite.
- Your new favorite Sleep Number® setting will display next to the favorite button for easy adjustment.
- Tap Adjust to Favorite to return to your saved Sleep Number® setting.

- Select the side of the bed you want to control.
- Press the Heart button and select Yes to save the current setting as your Favorite Sleep Number® setting.
