Use this guide to update the name shown on your Sleep Number® remote or change the sleeper name for each side of your bed. The steps depend on which remote you have.
Quick answer: For a Sleep Number Smart Remote, update sleeper names in the Sleep Number® app. For 360, Traditional Silver, ADAT, and DualTemp™ remotes, use the remote menu to open the rename screen and save the new name.
Before you begin
- Identify which remote you have: Sleep Number Smart Remote, 360 Remote, Traditional Silver Remote, ADAT Remote, or DualTemp™ Remote.
- If you use a Sleep Number Smart Remote, make sure your bed is online so the remote can receive updated sleeper names from the Sleep Number® app.
- If you are renaming both sides of the bed, repeat the steps for each side when prompted.
Find the rename option for your remote
Sleep Number Smart Remote
Applies to beds purchased after 2022, with a Smart Control™ System (including ComfortNext™), and strap attach. Also applies to Climate™ collection beds with magnet attach.
- Use the Sleep Number® app to change the sleeper name for each side of the bed.
- To update your Wellness Profile, follow the steps for Edit Sleeper Name.
- For a quick name change, go to Settings in the Sleep Number® app and follow the steps for How to Edit a Sleeper Name.
- Keep your bed online so the remote can receive the updated names.
- If no sleeper names are set up in the app, the remote defaults to Left and Right.
360 Remote
Applies to beds purchased between 2017 and 2026, with a Firmness Control™ System (Including ComfortMode™, hSE, c1, pSE and iLE), and magnet attach. Remote can be 5-, 10-, or 12-button.
- Press the Left/Right button to choose the side of the bed you want to rename.
- Press Home to open the Home menu.
- Select System.
- Select Settings.
- Select Reset Preferences.
- Select Rename Side.
Traditional or Universal Remote
Applies to Traditional, ADAT, and Innovation Series remotes purchased before 2017.
- Press the Left/Right button to choose the side of the bed you want to rename.
- Press Home to open the Home menu.
- Select System.
- Select Settings.
- Select Reset Preferences.
- Select Rename Side.
ADAT Remote
Applies to Traditional, ADAT, and Innovation Series remotes purchased before 2017.
- Press the side button for the side you want to rename.
- Press Menu/Select.
- Select Settings.
- Select Rename Side.
DualTemp™ Remote
Applies to optional DualTemp Layers, sold separately.
- Press and hold the Up and Down arrows for 5 seconds, until the Rename prompt appears.
- If System appears, select Rename Remote.
Renaming the side of the remote
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enter a name.
- Press the Up and Down arrows to scroll through letters.
- Press Enter to select a letter.
- Press Enter again to continue.
- Enter the name you want to use.
- Names can be up to 11 letters.
- Numbers are not supported.
- The first letter is capitalized automatically.
- To add another capital letter, press the Up and Down arrows at the same time to switch to uppercase, then select the letter.
- The delete and space options are at the end or beginning of the alphabet.
- Press and hold Enter to save the name.
- Select Yes if the name is correct, or select Rename to make changes.
- After you select Yes, the remote returns to the Home screen.
- For ADAT, universal, and 360 remotes, switch sides and repeat the process to rename the other side.
- DualTemp™ remotes control one side only.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rename my Sleep Number Smart Remote from the remote?
No. For a Sleep Number Smart Remote, update the sleeper name in the Sleep Number® app. The remote will show the updated name after the bed is online and syncs the change.
Why does my remote still show Left and Right?
If sleeper names are not set up in the Sleep Number® app, the remote defaults to Left and Right. Add or update sleeper names in the app, then make sure your bed is online so the remote can receive the update.
How many letters can I use in a remote name?
Remote names can be up to 11 letters. Numbers are not supported.
Can I rename both sides of my bed?
Yes. For remotes that control both sides, choose one side, rename it, then switch sides and repeat the steps for the other side. DualTemp™ remotes control one side only.
