Replace a Foot Warming Pad in Your Sleep Number® Bed

Once you receive your replacement foot warming pad(s), follow the steps below to remove the existing pad and install a new one. We recommend watching the video for your bed prior to completing steps.

At a glance: To replace your Foot Warming pad, first identify whether your bed uses magnet attach or strap attach. Then unplug the bed, disconnect the mattress from the base, cap the air chambers, unplug the Foot Warming wire connector, remove the old pad from the foam envelope and install the new pad label-side up. After the pad is flat and the wire is routed correctly, reassemble the bed, reconnect all hoses and wires, plug the bed back in and test Foot Warming one side at a time.

Before you Start: Important setup information

This guide supports all Sleep Number® beds with Foot Warming (available on a FlexFit® 3 adjustable base and Climate360® beds).

Time and Help Required

Estimated time: 30-45 minutes
People required: 2

You will need:

  • Replacement Foot Warming pad, available through Sleep Number Customer Support.
  • White air chamber caps (typically stored in your smart bed, base or provided during delivery). If you do not have white air chamber caps, order them online or visit a Sleep Number store near you.
  • Sleep Number® app, Smart Remote, or 360 Remote
  • 4-8 towels (magnet attach only)

Identify Your Bed Type

Throughout the steps below, instructions may differ based on how your mattress attaches to the base. Start by identifying whether your bed uses magnets or gray and black straps, then follow the steps for that attachment type. If your bed does not match either description, stop and contact Sleep Number support before continuing.

Safety Warning

When the mattress or magnetic components are detached, the magnets may emit a strong magnetic field. Follow all safety instructions when disconnecting or moving components.

Step 1: Prepare Your Bed

If you are unable to move the mattress, disconnect hoses or access the Foot Warming pad safely, stop and contact Sleep Number support for service options. Do not continue if the bed is too heavy, components are hard to reach or you are unsure which connection to remove.

For Sleep Number® Smart Beds (with strap attach)

  1. If you have a FlexTop™ or Split King model:
    1. Raise the head of the bed.
    2. Unsnap the black straps at the head of the bed.
    3. Return the bed to the flat position.

Black Strap Disconnect, head of the bed. Raise one side to easily access and disconnect.

For All Beds

  1. Place your bed in the flat position.
  2. Remove all bedding.
  3. Unplug your bed from the wall outlet or power strip.

Step 2: Disconnect the Mattress from the Base

For Sleep Number 360® Smart Beds (with magnet attach)

  1. Disconnect the magnets connecting the mattress and FlexFit® base.
    • Hint: Use your thumb to push up on the edge of the magnets to disconnect from base.
  2. Place folded towels between the magnets to prevent them from reconnecting.
  3. Disconnect the air hose from each air chamber (located at the hip of the bed).
    • This helps prevent air loss while the mattress cover and foam layers are moved. Keep the caps on until you are ready to reconnect the hoses during reassembly.
  4. Immediately cap the air chambers using the white caps.
  5. Disconnect the Foot Warming wire connector on each side of the bed.
    • Hint: Press down on the latch at the top of the connection and gently pull.

Note: You may hear air escaping when the hoses are disconnected. This is normal.

    • This helps prevent air loss while the mattress cover and foam layers are moved. Keep the caps on until you are ready to reconnect the hoses during reassembly.
  3. Cap the air chambers using the white caps.
  4. Disconnect the Foot Warming wire connector on each side of the bed.
    • Hint: Press down on the latch at the top of the connection and gently pull.

Step 3: Remove the Existing Foot Warming Pad

For FlexTop™ or Split King models, unzip and work on one side at a time. Zipper pulls and cover openings may be positioned differently than a queen or standard king mattress, so locate the zipper path on the side you are servicing before rolling back the cover.

  1. Unzip the mattress cover (the zipper is usually located on the bottom of the mattress, starting at the head of the bed).
  2. Roll the cover back from the foot of the bed.
  3. Locate the Foot Warming pad inside the foam envelope.
  4. Carefully fold the pad into thirds.
  5. Remove the pad through the envelope opening.

Important: The fabric envelope is attached to the foam. Do not remove the envelope from the foam. If you would like the pad moved, please contact Support for assistance.

The zipper is located on the bottom of the mattress, typically starting at the head of the bed.
