Understanding your SleepIQ® Score

Overview

The Sleep Number® app gives you a daily sleep score based on the quality and quantity of your sleep.

The Sleep Number app uses time in bed, movement, bed exits, heart rate, and breath rate to calculate your daily SleepIQ score. Over time the Sleep Number app uses your averages to provide insight into how to better your sleep.

  • Your Sleep: The more restful your sleep, the higher your score. Restful sleep is green. Restless sleep is yellow. Bed exits are red. Time to fall asleep is gray.
  • Your Biosignals: The more consistent your biosignals, the higher your score. Daily biosignals that are higher or lower than your personal average can contribute to a lower score. Biosignals insights are designed to provide comparisons to your personal averages or those of average healthy adults. Learn more about biosignals.
  • Your Goal: The closer you are to your goal, the higher your score. That means sleeping more or less than your sleep goal can result in a lower score.

How to Adjust Your Sleep Goal

If needed, you can adjust your sleep goal with the Sleep Number app. Open the Profile Tab, go to My Profile, then tap Sleeper to adjust your sleep goal. Make sure to save your changes! You can always adjust your sleep goal as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's a good score?

The score range is 10-100. We consider scores between 60-85 to be pretty great. Scores over 85 are extraordinary. Anything under 60 might mean your sleep needs a little attention. That said, when it comes to sleep, everyone is remarkably unique. Your score should always be interpreted by how you feel. If you’re feeling refreshed in the morning and have energy for your day, you’re probably at a good score for you.

Your averages make your daily score more meaningful because they give you a personalized point of comparison. After a couple of weeks of sleeping in your bed, you’ll be well on your way to knowing your average score. A higher-than-average score indicates you’re sleeping well; a lower-than-average score indicates you could be sleeping better.

Can I edit my sleep sessions?

The Sleep Number app allows you to edit or remove a sleep session for up to a week after the sleep session was recorded. You can restore your sleep session if you change your mind. After 7 days you can no longer edit, remove, or restore your sleep session. Editing allows you to remove time in bed. It does not allow you to add time in bed.

How long can I view my sleep data?

You can view your daily score for a rolling 90 days. Data older than 90 days is stored as weekly, monthly, and yearly averages. To see your sleep history, open the Sleep Number app, select Sleep, tap the calendar icon on the top right. Use the arrows to scroll back to previous days, weeks, months, and years.

You will see a calendar view with scores for each day. More than one score means you had more than one sleep session. An X means no score was recorded that day. Maybe you were out of town, had Privacy Mode turned on, or your bed was offline. Scores are color-coded, so you can easily spot your lowest and highest scores. Select week, month, or year to see helpful summaries of your average score, best score, and average time in bed for each time period.

How do I improve my score?

We know understanding your score is important to you because you care about improving your score, and that's why improving your sleep is our favorite topic too!

Sleepers with the highest scores tend to have the most consistent routines. They go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Consistent routines are a byproduct of healthy commitments you make and keep. The Sleep Number app can help you start a new bedtime routine to help you wind down so you can fall asleep faster and get better sleep. See our article on setting a bedtime reminder within the Circadian Rhythm feature.
