The Daytime Alertness feature in the Sleep Number® app gives you a daily insight into how alert you are likely to feel based on your sleep data and sleep science. After rating your alertness each day, the app provides personalized recommendations to improve your energy.
What is Daytime Alertness?
Daytime Alertness uses your nightly sleep data and established sleep science to estimate your likely daytime alertness and provide simple, personalized guidance to help you feel more energized and well-rested.
At a glance, it:
- Predicts likely daytime alertness using your SleepIQ® sleep data
- Incorporates validated measures like the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (a self-reported, moment-in-time sleepiness rating)
- Delivers daily insights and practical recommendations
- Helps you connect daily habits to improved energy and nighttime sleep
Note: Daytime Alertness does not change or impact your SleepIQ® score.
How the Daytime Alertness insight is generated
Your insight combines:
- Your recent sleep data (from your Sleep Number® smart bed and SleepIQ® account)
- Self-reported alertness you enter in the app
- Sleep science models that relate sleep patterns to daytime alertness (including the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale)
This allows the app to deliver a personalized daily insight and actionable suggestions.
How to access Daytime Alertness in the app (Step-by-step)
- Open the Sleep Number app.
- Tap the Sleep tab.
- Find the Circadian Rhythm section and select View details.
- Scroll to Daytime Alertness.
- Answer the Daytime Alertness question to receive your personalized insight for the day.
Tip: You can interact with Daytime Alertness once per day. The section does not display for short nap sessions.

Does Daytime Alertness change my SleepIQ® score?
No. Daytime Alertness does not impact your SleepIQ® score. It uses your sleep data and sleep science to generate a separate daily insight.
How often can I receive a Daytime Alertness insight?
You can receive one personalized insight per day when you answer the Daytime Alertness prompt.
Why didn’t I see the Daytime Alertness section today?
The section may not appear for short nap sleep sessions. Make sure you’re viewing a full sleep session from the Sleep tab under Circadian Rhythm → View details.
What is the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale?
The Karolinska Sleepiness Scale is a validated, self-reported measure of how sleepy you feel at a specific time of day. It helps contextualize alertness alongside your sleep data.
Do I need a Sleep Number® smart bed?
To get SleepIQ® data–powered insights, you’ll need an active SleepIQ® account connected to your Sleep Number® smart bed.
Is Daytime Alertness available on my remote?
No. It’s available in the Sleep Number® app and at sleepiq.sleepnumber.com, not on remotes.
Does this feature share my data?
Daytime Alertness uses your SleepIQ® data to generate your insight. For more details, see Sleep Number® app Data Privacy and Account Deletion.
