Connections into the pump will be:

  • Air hose connection(s) – Provides air to the chambers, so you can adjust firmness and use features like Responsive Air®. Ensure tight connections at both the pump and the air chambers. Loose connections can cause air loss or the pump to run more than normal.
    1. Sleeper right hose (blue)
    2. Sleep left hose (white)
  • Wire harness connections (FlexFit® 2 & 3 only) – Provide power and signals to base components via routed cords/cables under the base. Loose or damaged connections can affect base performance.
    1. Left-side wire harness (blue)
    2. Right-side wire harness (white)
  • Power cord – Provides power to the bed. Ensure the cord is tightly connected to the pump and plugged into a working outlet.

Pump location varies by configuration

  • FlexFit® 2 & 3 – Found at the foot of the bed, on the Sleeper Left side.
  • Adjustable Base, Foundation, & Mattress (only) – Pump sits on the floor.

Air Chambers

The air chambers hold the air and are inflated/deflated by the pump to adjust the softness or firmness of the bed. Each chamber is connected to the Smart Control™ System by an air hose.

For best performance

  • Ensure air chamber connections to the chamber and the pump are secure – If your pump is running constantly (or more than normal), check to make sure no air is escaping around the connection points.
  • Trace the hoses to ensure there are no kinks or creases – They will hinder air flow and cause the illusion of your bed losing air.

Connection location varies by configuration

  • FlexFit® 2 & 3, Adjustable Base, & Foundation – Hoses route through the hose pass on each side of the deck surface

  • Monthly: Trace hoses end-to-end to ensure there are no kinks, sharp bends, or pinched areas.
  • As needed: Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the pump and plugged into a working outlet.
  • If you have FlexFit®: Check that wire harness connections are fully seated and cords are not damaged.

Climate Series FAQs

How do I adjust firmness on a Climate Series?

Adjust firmness by inflating or deflating the air chambers using the Sleep Number® App and/or the optional Sleep Number® Smart Remote.

Why is my pump running constantly (or more than normal)?

In many cases, it is caused by a loose air hose connection at the pump or air chamber. Reseat connections on both ends and check hoses for kinks or pinched sections that can restrict airflow. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, follow air loss troubleshooting.

Why does my bed feel like it is losing air?

A kinked or creased hose can reduce airflow and make the bed feel softer than expected. Trace the hose path, remove bends, and confirm all air hose connections are tight.

Where is the pump located?

Pump location depends on your setup: on a FlexFit® it is at the foot of the bed (Sleeper Left side). With an Integrated Base/Foundation, (ClimateCool only), the pump sits on the floor.
