Core Control System and Remote

Common Components (All Control Systems)

Power Cord
Provides power to the bed.

  • Ensure the cord is firmly connected to the pump and plugged into a working electrical outlet.

Air Hose Connection(s)
Provides air to the air chambers, allowing you to adjust firmness and use features like Responsive Air®(Core Control System only).

  • Ensure connections are secure at both the pump and the air chambers.
  • Loose connections may cause air loss or cause the pump to run more than normal.

Air Chambers

The air chambers hold air and are inflated or deflated by the pump to adjust the softness or firmness of the bed. Each chamber connects to the control system through an air hose.

For Best Performance

  • Ensure all hose connections are secure at both the air chambers and the pump.
    • If the pump runs constantly (or more than normal), check for air escaping around connection points.
  • Check hoses for kinks or creases.
    • Restricted airflow can create the impression that the bed is losing air.

Connection location varies by configuration:

  • Adjustable base or foundation: Hoses route through the hose pass on each side of the deck surface.
  • Mattress only & Bunkie Board: Hoses exit from the cover near the head of the bed.

Maintenance & Inspection Checklist

  • Weekly (or if comfort changes): Confirm your Sleep Number® setting, then check for the pump running constantly or longer than usual.
  • Monthly: Inspect air hose connections at the pump and air chambers; reseat any connections that feel loose.
  • Monthly: Trace hoses end-to-end to ensure there are no kinks, sharp bends, or pinched areas.
  • As needed: Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the pump and plugged into a working outlet.

ComfortMode™ Mattress FAQs

What control system does my ComfortMode™ mattress use?
ComfortMode™ mattresses use either the Firmness Control™ System or the Core Control System.

What do the air chambers do?
They hold air and are inflated or deflated by the pump to adjust mattress firmness. Each chamber connects to the control system through an air hose.

My pump runs constantly (or more than normal). What should I check first?
Check that all air hose connections are secure at both the pump and air chambers.

It feels like my bed is losing air—could it be something else?
Yes. Kinked, creased, sharply bent, or pinched hoses can restrict airflow and create the illusion of air loss.

Where do the hoses connect or exit on my setup?
Connection location varies by configuration. Adjustable bases or foundations route hoses through deck hose passes, while mattress‑only setups exit near the head of the bed.

What should I check if the bed isn’t responding or I suspect a power issue?
Confirm the power cord is securely connected to the pump and plugged into a working outlet.

I have a FlexFit® 2 or 3 base—what should I inspect?
Check wire harness connections under the base. Loose or damaged connections may affect base performance.

I am preparing for a move, or moving room to room, can I move my mattress?

Yes, for instructions on how to safely and correctly move your mattress see ComfortMode™ Mattress Assembly and Disassembly Guide – Sleep Number.

How often should I inspect and maintain my setup?

  • Weekly (or if comfort changes): Confirm settings and pump runtime behavior
  • Monthly: Inspect and reseat air hose connections and trace hoses
  • As needed: Check power cord connection

Does my bed have a Trial & Warranty?

Yes, with the purchase of a Sleep Number mattress you get:

  • 100‑Night Trial: Try your new mattress at home for up to 100 nights to ensure it’s the right fit.
  • Limited Warranty
    • Purchased January 20th, 2026 to March 22nd, 2026: 1 year full coverage / 14 additional years of limited warranty coverage
    • Purchased March 23rd, 2026 and after: 2 years of full coverage / 8 additional years of limited warranty coverage
