How to get your bed online

Getting your bed online ensures you can start taking advantage of all the benefits of your new smart bed on your very first night. This also allows you to control your bed with the Sleep Number app®. Review the steps below to see which applies to you. The Sleep Number app will guide you through the process step by step.

What You Will Need

Before You Begin

  • Make sure your bed is fully assembled and plugged in.
  • Turn on Bluetooth in your device settings and enable location services.
  • Stay next to your bed the entire time.
How to check if your bed is online
  1. Log into the Sleep Number app.
  2. Select 'Smart Bed.'
  3. Open 'Bed Settings' (top right corner).
  4. Your app will tell you if your bed needs to be paired, is online, or offline.

Getting your first bed online
  1. Download the Sleep Number app and register your smart bed if you have not done so already.
  2. Open the Sleep Number app and log in.
  3. Go to "Smart Bed" and tap "Finish Setup." This may take 5 to 10 minutes.

  4. Confirm your bed is fully assembled and that no one in on the bed during the pairing process and select "Continue".

  5. Confirm you want to connect Smart Bed and tap "Allow".

  6. Connect smart bed to Wi-Fi.
    • Note: Sleep Number beds may have a difficult time connecting to 5 GHz networks. Please review Sleep Number smart bed Technology Requirements for additional information.
    • If you don't see your network listed, you may want to move your router closer to your bed.
    • If your Wi-Fi network contains special characters, you may have trouble getting online. We recommend changing your network name if this happens.
    • Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive.

  7. Stay next to your bed until everything is complete. If you're trouble getting online, find additional help Trouble Getting Online.

Get another bed online
  1. Open the Sleep Number app and tap "Smart Bed."
  2. Select the bed you want to get online.
  3. Tap the settings icon in the top right corner.
  4. Tap Connectivity and update your Wi-Fi settings by tapping "Change Wi-Fi".
  5. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter your password. Make sure your router is within 40 feet of your bed and your internet service is connected.
  6. Stay next to your bed until the process is complete.
Bed Offline/Changed Network: My bed was online and now it's not
  1. Open the Sleep Number app and log in if needed.
  2. Tap Smart Bed.
  3. Tap the bed settings icon in the top right corner.
  4. Select "Connectivity" and "Change Wi-Fi" to update your Wi-Fi network information.
  5. The app will scan for your Wi-Fi network. When prompted, select your Wi-Fi network, and enter your Wi-Fi password.
    • Note: If you don't see your network listed, make sure your router is within 40 feet of your bed and your internet service is connected.
    • If your Wi-Fi network password contains special characters, you may have trouble getting online. We recommend changing your password if this happens.
    • Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive.
    • If the Wi-Fi network name contains an apostrophe ('), it may cause a connection issue. For these situations, we recommend changing the network name on the Wi-Fi router, so it does not include this character.
  6. Stay next to your bed until everything is complete. If you're having trouble getting online, find additional help with Trouble Getting Online.
Bed Offline: Replacement Pump
  1. Turn Bluetooth on in your device settings. Stay within 8 feet of your bed while pairing.
  2. Tap Smart Bed.
    • If you have multiple beds, make sure you select the correct bed.
  3. Tap the bed Settings icon in the top right corner.
  4. Select "Install Replacement Electronics" and follow the prompts within the app.

If your bed does not come online, try the below steps:

  1. Perform a power cycle on your bed by unplugging your bed for 60 seconds.
  2. Plug your bed back in.
  3. After the bed fully reboots (takes 2-3 minutes).
  4. Walk through install Replacement Electronics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to get my bed online?
Your bed doesn't need to be online to adjust your Sleep Number® setting or FlexFit™ base. However, getting your bed online is required if you want your bed to track your sleep or if you want to use Responsive Air® technology. You can pause sleep session tracking at any time by using the Privacy Mode feature. Learn more about why getting online is important.
Can I get my bed online without the Sleep Number app? 
The Sleep Number app is the only way to get your bed online.
Will my phone or tablet work with my bed?
The Sleep Number app is available on most Apple and Android mobile phones and tablets. Your device must be updated to the latest software version to work with the Sleep Number app. If you are using an outdated software version you may experience problems using the Sleep Number app. Read our full list of device compatibility requirements to make sure your device will work. We recommend purchasing a remote if your device does not meet the requirements for Sleep Number® technology and you do not plan to upgrade your device before your bed arrives.
