Use these tips if your Sleep Number® smart bed is not recording sleep data, shows the wrong time in or out of bed, misses part of your sleep session, or shows bed exits that did not happen. We understand it can be frustrating when your sleep data does not match what you experienced. These steps can help improve accuracy and show when support should take a closer look.
Start here: Choose what best matches your issue
If your sleep data does not look right, start with the issue that best matches what you see in the Sleep Number app. You do not need to know the cause before you begin. Follow the recommended next step below.
| If this is happening | Start with this step |
| The app shows the wrong bedtime, wake time, date, or day. | Verify your bed timezone. |
| The app says you got out of bed, but you did not. | Baseline your bed, then check what may affect sleep tracking accuracy (reading, watching TV, working, sitting on the bed, pets, or unusual sleep positions may be affecting tracking). |
| Only part of your night recorded, or the app missed the beginning or end of your sleep session. | Verify your bed timezone and make sure your main sleep session is selected. |
| Your bed recorded a nap, short rest, or time spent sitting in bed instead of your main sleep session. | Make sure your main sleep session is selected. |
| No sleep data recorded for one or more nights. | Baseline your bed and confirm your bed is connected in the Sleep Number app. |
| The data still looks wrong after trying these steps. | Review the support checklist in “If your sleep data still looks wrong.” |
What you can fix yourself
Many sleep data issues can be improved with a few quick checks in the Sleep Number app. Try these steps first before contacting support. If you have already tried one of these steps, it is OK to move to the next one.
- Baseline your bed if sleep data is missing, incomplete, or showing false bed exits.
- Verify your bed timezone if the app shows the wrong bedtime, wake time, date, or day.
- Make sure you are viewing your main sleep session, especially if the app recorded a nap or short rest.
- Check whether reading, watching TV, working, sitting on the bed, pets, or unusual sleep positions may be affecting tracking.
- Give your bed time to learn your normal sleep patterns after setup, a baseline, or a change in routine.
When to contact us
Contact support if you tried the steps above and your sleep data still does not match what happened. We know repeated tracking issues can be frustrating, especially when they affect your SleepIQ score. We can take a closer look when the issue is repeated, only affects one side of the bed, or prevents your bed from recording sleep data.
- No sleep data records for two or more nights.
- Only one side of the bed consistently records incorrect or missing data.
- The app repeatedly shows bed exits that did not happen.
- The app regularly misses the first hour or more of your sleep session.
- Your main sleep session is missing or only partially recorded after checking timezone and sleep session selection.
- Your bed, pump, or base makes an unusual noise or movement that wakes you or affects tracking.
Baseline your bed
A baseline helps your smart bed understand what the bed feels like when no one is in it. This helps the bed detect when you get in, get out, and stay in bed. Baseline your bed during initial setup, after a power outage, or if support recommends it. Avoid baselining too often, because your bed needs time to learn your normal sleep patterns. Give your bed up to two weeks to improve sleep data recording after a baseline. Read Baseline Your Bed for instructions.
Verify your bed timezone
An accurate bed timezone helps the Sleep Number app show the correct in-bed time, out-of-bed time, and sleep session date. If your app shows the wrong day, shows sleep several hours early or late, or misses the beginning or end of your sleep session, check your bed timezone in the Sleep Number app. See How to Edit Timezone for steps to edit your bed's timezone.
Make sure your main sleep session is selected
Your smart bed can record more than one sleep session in a day, including naps or time spent lying in bed. If your score looks too low, too high, or shorter than expected, check that you are viewing your main sleep session. On the Sleep screen, use the dates and sleep sessions at the top of the screen to confirm you are looking at the right session. Read Understanding Your SleepIQ Score to learn more about what affects your score.
Check what may affect sleep tracking accuracy
Your bed uses sensor readings to understand when you are in bed and when you are sleeping. Sleep tracking may be less accurate if you read, watch TV, work, sit on the bed, lie awake for a long time, share the bed with a pet, sleep away from your usual side, or sleep in the middle of the bed. These situations can make the app show unexpected awake time, bed exits, short sessions, or a different time to fall asleep.
If your sleep data still looks wrong
If the app still shows inaccurate sleep data after checking your baseline, timezone, and sleep session, note what looks wrong before contacting support. This helps us understand the issue faster and reduce repeat troubleshooting. Helpful details include the date of the sleep session, what time you got in and out of bed, whether the app showed a false bed exit, whether only part of the night recorded, and whether the issue happens on one side of the bed or both sides.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my app show bed exits when I did not get out of bed?
Your bed may detect a change in pressure that looks like a bed exit. This can happen if your sleep position changes, you move toward the edge or middle of the bed, a pet is on the bed, or the bed needs a baseline.
Why is my "time to fall asleep" wrong?
Time to fall asleep may look different than expected if you read, watch TV, lie awake, move often, or if the app does not detect the beginning of your sleep session. Check your bed timezone and make sure you are viewing the correct sleep session.
Why did my bed record a nap but not my main sleep session?
Check the Sleep screen to make sure you are viewing the right sleep session. If your main sleep session is missing or only partially recorded, check your baseline and timezone, then contact support if the issue continues.
Can I manually edit my sleep or wake time?
Yes. You can edit, remove, and restore your sleep sessions. This lets you delete sessions, such as naps, remove time from a sleep session, or restore a recently deleted session. You cannot manually change your “time to fall asleep” calculation.
Can I stop the bed from tracking when I am reading, watching TV, working, or sitting on the bed?
Yes. Privacy Mode stops sleep data from being recorded or shown in the Sleep Number app. You can turn Privacy Mode on or off at any time in the app settings.
Do naps affect my average SleepIQ score?
Yes. Naps and short sleep sessions can affect your SleepIQ score and trends. If you do not want a nap or short session included, you can edit, remove, and restore your sleep sessions.
Good to know
Adjusting your Sleep Number setting immediately after getting out of bed can interfere with your SleepIQ score. If you like to inflate your bed to 100 in the morning, wait 10 minutes after you get out of bed.
Your Sleep Number smart bed system can record multiple sleep sessions. Short naps or short times in bed may show as separate sleep sessions with a lower score. The score that matters most is your main sleep session. Use the dates at the top of the Sleep screen to make sure you are viewing the correct sleep session.
