Before You Start
- Bed is plugged in and powered on.
- You are near the bed (within 5–10 feet).
- Remote has working batteries.
Important
- Do not set the remote down until finished. The screen will go to sleep, and you will have to start over.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Locate the Pairing Button
- FlexFit Adjustable Base: On the side of the adjustable base, located at the hip of the bed.
- Mattress Only, Integrated Base or Foundation: Found on the back of your pump.
2. Pair the Remote
- Wake up the remote by picking up the remote or pressing any button.
- Within the remote, navigate to the Settings menu.
- Select Pair Bed.
- Follow prompts on remote.
3. Put the Bed in Pairing Mode
- Press the Pair/Favorite button for 5 seconds until it flashes, then release.
- FlexFit Adjustable Base: Press and hold the favorite button on the side of your base.
- Mattress Only, Integrated Base or Foundation: Press and hold the button on the side of your bed’s smart control system, located in the integrated base or under your bed.
Wait for:
- Bluetooth icon in the top left corner of the remote screen will go from blinking to solid when pairing is complete.
4. Confirm the Connection
Use the remote to:
- Adjust head/foot position (FlexFit only)
- Change your Sleep Number® setting
If the bed responds, pairing is complete.
Troubleshooting Pairing Issues
“No Smart Bed Found”
- Make sure the pairing/favorite button is still blinking.
- Press “Try Again” on the remote.
- If the remote is unable to pair after 3 attempts, remove the batteries from your remote for 10 seconds, re-insert them, and try the pairing process again.
Remote won’t connect?
- Move closer to the bed.
- Replace batteries or charge the remote.
- Make sure no other remotes are pairing nearby.
Bed not entering pairing mode?
- Unplug the bed for 30 seconds, then try again.
- Check connections to the pump.
Still not working?
- Try pairing again from the beginning.

Why won’t my Sleep Number remote pair?
This usually happens due to low battery, distance from the bed, or the bed not being in pairing mode.

Do I need to pair my remote again after replacing parts?
Yes, pairing is required after replacing the pump or remote.
How do I change the Sleeper name on my remote?
This is not available in the physical Smart Remote. To change the name for a side of the bed, you will need to do so in the Sleep Number® app.

- For a quick name change go to 'Settings' and follow steps for How to Edit a Sleeper Name.
- The bed must be online to receive the updated names after you make the changes.
- If no names are set up in the app, the remote will default to Left and Right.
