FlexFit® Adjustable Base Assembly and Disassembly Guide

This guide explains how to assemble, set up, move, disassemble, and reassemble a Sleep Number® FlexFit® Adjustable Base safely and correctly. Follow these instructions whether you are installing a new base, relocating within your home, or preparing it for a move.

Important: Your base or control system may vary slightly by model.

 

What is a FlexFit® Adjustable Base?

A FlexFit® Adjustable Base is a smart, motorized bed base designed to work with the Sleep Number® app, allowing personalized comfort and positioning.

Safety Warning

Some Sleep Number® Smart Mattresses with FlexFit® bases use strong magnets. When the mattress or magnetic components are detached, the magnets may emit a strong magnetic field. Follow all safety instructions when disconnecting or moving components.

Doorstep Delivery: Assembling your FlexFit Adjustable Base

Step 1: Unbox the Adjustable Base

  1. Stand the base upright on the side rail edges.
  2. Flex the head panels slightly for stability.
  3. Cut and remove the orange zip ties.
  4. Do not cut or damage black wire bundles.
  5. If included, remove head and foot rails and set them aside (they may be wedged between the decking panel and frame).

Step 2: Install and adjust the legs

  • With one person stabilizing the base, insert each leg into the frame receiver.
  • Press the metal button, slide the leg to your preferred height, and twist to lock.
  • Do not remove the clear spacer tape—it ensures a snug fit.
  • Remove rubber caps if placing the base on carpet.
  • Lean the base onto its legs and confirm all legs are set to the same height.

Tip: Lower leg heights may reduce stability—have a partner support the base while checking.

  1. While the base is on its side, inspect all under‑base connections.
  2. Route mattress hoses and cables through the designated openings on each side.
  3. Connection layouts may vary depending on your control system type.

Step 4: Position the base

  1. Lower the base into its final location.
  2. Use the built‑in handle openings to adjust placement.
  3. Ensure mattress connection points at each hip remain accessible.

Skip this step if your base did not come with rails.

  1. Remove protective plastic from siderails.
  2. Slide the head and foot rails into the grooves at each end.
  3. Secure rails using speed screws:
    • 4 screws at the head
    • 2 screws at the foot

Step 6: Route and secure hoses

  1. Route hoses along the base frame.
  2. Secure them using the built‑in clips.
  3. Align the white hose sticker with the side‑rail clips to avoid excess slack.

Step 7: Connect power

  1. Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
  2. Ensure the outlet is not controlled by a wall switch.

  1. Install frame links at both the head and foot of the bed.
  2. Hold deck panels up and align the links with frame openings.
  3. Snap securely into place.

  • Secure with Velcro straps.

  • Lay decking panels flat.
  • Confirm hose access points at each hip.
  • All FlexFit® models include a hose.
  • FlexFit® 3 models also include a foot‑warming wire.

Moving Your FlexFit Adjustable Base: How to Disassemble

Follow these steps when relocating or storing your adjustable base.

Step 1: Prepare the Mattress

  1. Inflate both sides of the mattress to 100.
  2. Disconnect hoses and attach white closure caps.
  3. Disconnect foot‑warming wires (if applicable).
  4. Detach the mattress:
    • Magnet system: Follow safety guidance before disconnecting.
    • Strap system: Unclip gray straps at hips and foot.
    • Split King models include additional foot straps.
  5. Bag the mattress for transport.
  6. Disconnect and box the control system.

 

Step 2: Disassemble the Base

  1. Separate bases (King, Cal King, FlexTop™, Split King).
  2. Disconnect right‑side and left‑side cables.
  3. Remove frame links at head and foot.
  4. Detach hoses from the foot rail.
  5. Remove head and foot rails (if installed).
  6. Remove legs for easier doorway clearance.
