Sleep Number® Foundation Assembly and Disassembly Guide

Applies to: Sleep Number Foundation, offered March 2026 and after.

Learn how to assemble and disassemble your Sleep Number® Foundation safely and correctly. Whether you are setting up a new, preparing for a move, or moving room to room, this step-by-step guide, with videos, walks you through the entire process. Please note that size and configurations might change instructions.

Assembly Instructions:

Step 1: Unbox components

• Stage components in the home after removing external plastic layer.
• We recommend not bringing boxes in your home.

Step 2: Stage leg beams & cross beams (if leg kit is present)

• Lay the leg beams and cross beams on the ground in their proper place.

Step 3: Install legs on center cross beam

1.  Screw the 2 support legs into threaded holes on the center cross beam.

Step 4: Install cross beams

1. Install the center cross beam into the side leg beams, using 2 thumb screws and 2 spring washers (included).
2. Repeat this process for head and foot cross beams.

Step 5: Install rails

1. Place head, foot, and side rails in respective areas.
2. Connect head rail to side rails by sliding side rails down into metal grooves on head rail.
3. Repeat for foot rail.
4. Install a thumbscrew and washer (included) at leg and cross beam locations (six).
5. Install a corner bracket (included) at all 4 corners by sliding bracket down onto screws.

Step 6: Install center support beam with power cord

1. Install center support beam with power cord into the u-brackets at the center of the head and foot rails.
2. The plug should be at the head of the bed.

Step 7: Install Deck Surface

1. Position deck on frame at foot of base, non-skid fabric side up
2. Roll out deck affixing the corners to the hook-and-loop fasteners.

Step 8: Install Control System (pump) and make connections

1. Roll back deck halfway from the foot.
2. Install control system onto center support beam.
3. Route hoses through hose pass throughs on each side of the deck surface.
4. Secure hoses to the center support beam with Velcro straps.
5. Connect power, hoses, and wire harness (if applicable) to the control system.
6. Roll deck out back to the foot and secure corners to hook-and-loop fasteners.

Disassembly

Step 1: Roll up and remove the deck surface

1. Start at the head of the base and release the hook‑and‑loop attachments at the corners. 
2. Roll the deck surface up and remove it from the frame.
3. Remove hoses and put in clean place for transfer. If hook and loop fasteners were used, unhook it from the hoses and reattach to the leg kit frame for transfer.

Step 2: Remove the center support beam(s)

1. Locate the center support beam in the middle of the frame.
2. Pull the center support beam out of the U‑brackets at the head and foot rails. 
   • King/Cal King: there are two center support beams.

Step 3: Remove the corner brackets

1. At each corner, pull the corner bracket off the screw heads.

Step 4: Unscrew thumb screws from side rails (leg kit only)

1. Unscrew the top thumbscrew and spring washer only that attaches the side rails to the crossbeams.
2. Place thumbscrews and spring washers in a bag so they do not get lost in the move.

Step 5: Separate the head and foot rails from the side rails

1. At the corners, lift the side rail slides up and out of the head/foot rail slots to separate the frame into rails.

Step 6: Disassemble leg kit (leg kit only)

1. Remove the remaining thumbscrews and spring washers at the attachment points 
2. Add these to the other thumbscrews and spring washers you have removed from the frame.
